Dotted throughout the southeastern U.S. are mystical realms where the line between life and decay frays, and the symbiotic relationship of the two plays out on a watery stage. Sunlight filters through a tapestry of moss and branches casting shadows that stretch to touch each other, briefly, then shift and move propelled by the shifting Sun. The air hangs thick with the scent of dampness and mystery, a landscape of liquid shadows and whispering breezes. Water pulses through the reeds and trees like blood through veins, giving life to an eden teeming with birth and the slow, deliberate process of decay, ever changing while remaining largely the same. They are a life force unto themselves, mysterious, dangerous, beautiful, and constantly renewing. The Sojourner's Shadow is a contemplation on the cycle of a life, the joys of adolescent discovery, the thrill of young love, the questioning of middle age, and the acceptance of destiny. Set in cypress swamps, it is also a love letter to the fragile environments that support us. The series incorporates symbols from various religious traditions and mythologies as a reflection of the most common human experience.
